Bella Wiyn Birralee Family Centre

A new build on a greenfield site within an ever-expanding area of regional Victoria, the Bella Wiyn Birralee Family Centre is an integrated community facility for the City of Greater Geelong. ‘Bella Wiyn Birralee’ means “Bellarine Children” in the local Wadawurrung language, reflecting the warm and welcoming focus for children at this centre. The Centre offers a long daycare, kindergarten, Maternal Child Health consulting, counselling offices and a toy library as a range of services to the local community. These spaces were designed to be adaptive, responding to the needs of the Drysdale community as they arise in real time. A fully equipped commercial kitchen and large multipurpose community space offers opportunity for classes, meetings and a gathering point.

The two-storey structure is designed to maximise natural light, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The use of colour brings a sense of fun and excitement to the centre, whilst clearly designating zones for play, creativity or action. Externally, large undercover play areas and verandahs provide all-weather play options, with play spaces thoughtfully integrated into the surrounding lush landscaping.

The facility achieved a 5-Star Green Star accreditation in October 2021.
