Hurstbridge Community Hub

Located on the site of the former Hurstbridge High School, the Hurstbridge Community Hub is an integrated community, health and childcare centre that brings together essential local services in the heart of Hurstbridge on Wurundjeri Country. At the core of the project is the renovation and extension of the existing Hurstbridge Community Centre, thoughtfully reimagined for Nillumbik Shire Council to provide early years services, maternal and child health, playgroup programs, U3A activities, and a wide range of community programs.

The project carefully incorporates the historic Frank Nankervis Library, which has been repurposed as a central community function room — anchoring the new development with a strong sense of place and local memory. The architectural approach respects the existing built fabric and natural surrounds, with the single-storey extension utilising timber, stone, and natural materials to sit comfortably within the Hurstbridge landscape and enhance the village character of the area.

Positioned at the end of the Diamond Creek Trail and bordered by community gardens and parklands, the Hub is designed as a welcoming, multi-generational space — a place for people to gather, learn, connect and contribute. It supports both the day-to-day needs of local families and the broader social and cultural life of the Hurstbridge community.
