Billy Button Children’s Centre

Part of the Footscray Learning Precinct, Billy Button Children’s Centre is a joint initiative between the Department of Education and Training (DET) and Maribyrnong City Council to bring early education and care into closer alignment with primary and tertiary education.

Offering a 66-place long day care, 66-place kindergarten, Maternal and Child Health consulting rooms, and integrated staff facilities, the centre fosters a holistic approach to early learning in a purpose-built, community-focused environment.

Perkins Architects facilitated precinct-wide workshops, collaborating with local schools and Victoria University to create strong educational, community and spatial connections. Despite complex site challenges, from contaminated soil and heritage constraints to significant trees and subterranean infrastructure, Perkins navigated these effectively, ensuring smooth delivery and integration within the precinct.

Billy Button Children’s Centre supports Footscray’s vision for lifelong learning, connecting children and families to an evolving educational landscape.
