As part of the broader Footscray Learning Precinct, which also includes the adjacent Billy Button Children’s Centre, the Stage 2 upgrade of Footscray City Primary School delivered a significant transformation to its teaching and learning environments.
Focused on the main school building housing Years 1–6, the refurbishment created dynamic learning communities: clusters of three to four classrooms that function as individual spaces or open via large sliding doors into shared zones for team teaching, group learning, and adaptable lessons across year levels.
Opportunities for retreat, breakout, and small group activities were thoughtfully distributed throughout, providing supportive environments for neurodiverse students to thrive. Resource-rich areas and STEM education were integrated to enhance student-led investigations and team-based projects. Purpose-built specialist spaces for art and music further enrich learning opportunities, complemented by upgraded staff and administration facilities.
Accessibility was significantly improved with the addition of lifts and compliance upgrades, ensuring inclusivity for all students and staff. Delivered within a live school environment, the project required careful staging and coordination to maintain safety and minimise disruption while students continued their education alongside construction.
The result is an agile, inclusive, and future-focused learning environment that cements Footscray City Primary School’s role as a vital part of this connected educational precinct.
