Located amongst the sand dunes of St Andrews’ rugged foreshore, this house replaced the dated fibro shack on the site with a generous family home that maximises beach views. The materiality of natural timbers and stone mimic the surroundings, and will continue to age and further embed this home within the landscape.
As a timber deck draws you through the lower level, the arrival sequence offers glimpses of these views, through stone framed outlooks and a floating ‘glass box’ staircase. Each space within the home of the upper level offers unique full aperture outlooks to the north, east and west, using large sections of glazing and decks flanking either side of the home to reveal the natural surrounds. Timber batten screening offers protection from extreme driving wind and rains. Landscaping serves as a continuation of the nature reserve adjacent, running right up to the house through a series of carved-out courtyards.
